You know what I have a problem with lightweight? Why do all these black celebrities focus so much on emulating Marilyn Monroe when Dorothy Dandridge was her closest black equal? Shit, Dorothy deserves some homage too. *eye roll*
THIS is what I’ve been saying!!! Dorothy Dandridge all the way!!!!! They were close friends (the friendship was hidden because it was unacceptable for blacks & whites to mingle. NO Marilyn biography even remotely mentions Dottie *side eye*), and Dottie was a sex symbol in her own right. How can you ignore the first black woman to ever be nominated for a best actress Academy Award, the first black woman to appear on the career of Life magazine? I’m sorry, but I have NO desire to emulate a blonde haired white woman. DOROTHY DANDRIDGE paved the way for US, yet some black females would rather idolize Marilyn. I. Don’t. Understand.
